Trust Jesus – Matthew 14: 22-33
Key Verse: 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
Why do we doubt? With Peter it was fear, it might be the same for us. Maybe as Jesus said, our faith is weak. Let’s go back a step; Jesus fed over five thousand people with five loaves and two fish. Now it must have taken some faith on Jesus’ part to think he can pull that one off. In our lesson this week Jesus walks on water, now we know we couldn’t do that without divine intervention. So it looks like Jesus is the one we need to stay close to. So why did Peter start sinking, when he got the first sign of trouble? 29b Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” He lost faith that Jesus had him covered. We do that all the time and we know how quickly we can sink into despair. When trouble comes our way we move away from God instead of staying close to or moving towards Him in prayer and adoration. God never said we won’t have trouble, he said he would never leave us, Hebrews 13: 5b because God has said,“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Like Peter we should cry out to God to save us. Throughout Jesus’ life he said he can do nothing without the help of his Father, trust Jesus.
Have a faith filled week
