We Are All Equal in God's Eyes – Matthew 20: 1-16 - The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard
Key Verse: 12 ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’
Like the first lot of workers in the vineyard we probably feel that God should look more favourably on us because we are Christians. It doesn’t quite work that way, we are all equal recipients of God’s blessings. 16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.” We shouldn’t be envious of someone who has been given more than us, God’s gifts will come to us in different ways and times. God is the author of our life and it all depends on the stage we are at in that story to receive what is due to us. Like the last lot of workers in our lesson this week, they only did an hour’s work, but they received the same as the ones that laboured all day and half of the day. It was their time to receive their pay despite not working all day and it was also the earlier workers time as well but they received the same pay. We are all equal in God’s eyes and He will determine when and how He will bless us with HIS gifts. James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Have a blessed week
